Build
a Lantern
This year, Luminara
has partnered with Mayfair Shopping Centre to deliver a series of
affordable, drop-in lantern-making workshops. Lantern kits are 10$
and are availible at the workshops or at the concierge desk.
On July 5th,12th,
13th & 19th, join us in the centre court at Mayfair Shopping Centre
from 11am to 3pm to build and decorate your own lantern - you can
even show off your handiwork in a colourful procession on July 20th!

Community
Lantern Project: Ghost Salmon Run
Join
community artist Paula Jardine in the creation of glowing salmon and
roe lanterns for the "Ghost Salmon Run" installation at
Luminara this year. Participants are invited to include their lanterns
in Luminara where the glowing stream of fish will be accompanied by
the hauntingly beautiful harmonies of the RiverSong Singers, led by
singer/composer Carolyn Knight. And, of course, take their lanterns
home to illuminate their own gardens afterwards.
Paula
will teach workshop participants how to make a three foot long salmon
lantern out of wire and tissue paper, with the option of making little
roe lanterns for younger participants.
The
workshop will be held at the Fairfield Activity Centre, 1 - 380 Cook
Street, on Friday July 18 from 11am - 4pm. Cost $20 per salmon lantern,
$10 per roe lantern. Group/family rates negotiable. Optional lunch
provided for $6.
